We are pleased to announce that we now offer a crop to size service for any walking stick bought from www.walkingsticksonline.co.uk that has a wooden shaft. Most of our wooden walking sticks are one-piece and are of a standard height; 91 cms or 36 inches. So if you have just lost your favorite walking stick that was just the right height, you can now get a replacement from us at exactly the required height.
Here’s wishing all or our customers a very Happy 2009 from everyone at Walking Sticks Online!
Thank you for your custom in 2008 and we hope it continues into 2009!
We will be launching a number of new products this year, sowatch this space. If you have signed up to receive monthly email newsletters from Walking Sticks Online, then you can keep up to date with new products and promotions easily.
New for 2009! We are working on a zero-rate VAT form for registered disabled, enabling a complete VAT deduction before buying a walking stick. This should be finished by the end of January.
Also new for 2009, handmade country sticks and thumbsticks from Norfolk. Beautiful handmade sticks with interesting handles such as Ram’s horn, Stag’s horn with whistle (for calling the dog!). If there is a type of stick you would especially like; i.e 4 ft 10 inches high, made from Hazel with a Rose wood handle in a particular shape, then our stick-maker in Norfolk can make it for you. We have wanted to offer a bespoke walking stick service for a while because we have had a number of requests, and this year we can!
So, Happy New Year again and watch out on those icy pavements!
I bought my dad a walking stick making day course for his birthday last year and he cannot recommend it strongly enough. We all spent a lovely weekend in Dentdale in the Yorkshire Dales and my dad spent one day in a little workshop in the scenically lovely Dales.
Ivy Cottage is in its 7th year of running their popular ‘One-day Stick Making Course’ in the workshop situated in Dentdale. Could this be the ideal gift for a birthday or Christmas present?
Brian Bannister of Ivy Cottage (sticks4you) says, “To ensure individual attention, we only take six people on each course. During the day you will make and complete a wooden headed crook. No experience is necessary. We start at 8.45 am and finish at 4.30pm. The fee for the full day course includes a tasty lunch and you can take the stick you made home with you.”
Highly recommended weekend in a beautiful part of the country. Excellent views, walks, pubs and people.
Yes, you can beat the cold weather and still get out and about without worrying about skidding over on the icy pavements. Try one of our Anti-slip Ice Grip attachments. The device fits on to any size walking stick and provides a superior grip on icy surfaces.
As you have seen, most of our brass handled walking canes have been out of stock for a very long time now! But good news, the end is in sight. The brass handled canes will be back with us in June, in a matter of a few weeks.
We are very sorry it has taken so long as these are very popular sticks, mainly due to their fantastic value but also because of their functionality and “ideal gift” value. Most of them unscrew into several parts and some have hidden flasks inside for your favorite tipple.
Our supply of the brass canes has now been secured, so we will always have them in stock in future.
If you have already bought a walking stick from us before, you will know that they are great value for money, even with the postage! However, you can get a further £2 discount with us by using the following special code when you get to the checkout online.
Just enter code “bargain” in the promotional code box at the checkout and then click apply and you will see the £2 instantly deducted before you buy.
This code is valid for the whole year, up until December 31st 2008. Minimum order value of £15.00 applies.
Also, we have reduced the prices for all of our folding walking sticks from £21 down to £16.99 for some and even less for others.
Pensioners have been taught to use their walking sticks in self-defence by a martial arts expert. Karate black belt Kevin Garwood, 58, is teaching the moves to the over-60s in his home town of Gorleston, Norfolk.Mr Garwood’s pupils learn simple strangleholds, arm locks and throws with their sticks.“What I am not trying to do is make grey-haired ninjas – what it does is give them tremendous confidence,” Mr Garwood said.
An eldery pupil has already put Mr Garwood’s training into practice – she fought off two boys who grabbed her arm and her handbag.
However she reported her self-defence to the police because she was worried she may have injured the boys.
